Totally transformed my respect & expectations of myself

"Prior to starting this Strength Programme, besides a regular yoga practice and walking as often as possible, I did not focus, or even consider specifically my physical strength. So, I will admit when I committed to the initial six-week course, it was with a 'try-it-and-see' attitude. I also didn't buy any extra equipment but borrowed some light hand weights as I didn't expect too much of myself. By the time the second four-week course was released, I was convinced this was what I needed and so bought some equipment and was raring to go. Â
What changed?
Feeling the benefit quite quickly in posture, muscle tone, flexibility and particularly for me, no pain. I have scoliosis in my lower back and I've always protected it as it can cause horrible sciatica making me approach any kind of strengthening exercise with great caution and some trepidation. By the end of the first six-weeks, quite the reverse had happened as I actually felt much more confident in the day-to-day strength of my back!
Not letting myself down was also a big win for me because I don't always see things through, which causes me to self-admonish. Annie made me feel comfortable from the start as she was finding space in her home and day to fit this in just like me and so it made it achievable. As the sessions are pre-recorded, it also meant I could do them when it suited me.
Her teaching style is encouraging, really friendly and down-to-earth. But donât be fooled, her knowledge of anatomy and how she structured each class meant I worked hard, built my strength evenly throughout my body and achieved tangible results in every half hour session. While one-legged chair raises were not popular with me, I now take every staircase two treads at a time without a sweat. But I was astonished when performing a seated twist that I could do it with both legs tucked. For years I had to extend my right leg. So finally, my IT band had loosened off without me even focussing on it! Very satisfying.
So, to sum up: Both courses have totally transformed my respect for and expectations of, myself. Thatâs quite an emotional feeling, plus, my confidence in my physical strength and that makes me smile and feel proud of myself. Sign me up to the next one!"
